Q I AM 16-years-old and have been with my boyfriend for just over seven months. We feel we are ready to have sex because we have done other stuff.

The trouble is that, when we went to do it, we couldn’t manage.

Is there something wrong with me, or does this just mean I’m not ready?

A I DON’T think there’s anything wrong. The first time can be difficult, especially when both parties are sexually inexperienced.

You also need to be more relaxed. I’d leave it for a while and then try again. Use the time to read a decent sex education book or watch a suitable DVD.

Meantime, don’t forget protection.
